How many pages
can each type of binding mechanism hold?
There are 5 main types of binding mechanism, read about them in more
depth in the Jargon Buster section. As a quick reference guide, please
see the following:
Comb Binding
- Uses a plastic coil to secure pages
- Suitable for up to 450 pages
Coil Binding
- Uses a plastic coated coil to secure pages
- Suitable for up to 140 pages
Wire Binding
- Uses a wire to secure pages
- Suitable for up to 125 pages
Thermabinding
- Glue hidden within the binding cover ‘melts’ to secure pages
- Suitable for up to 240 pages
Click Binding
- A re-useable plastic clip secures pages
- Suitable for up to 145 pages
Please note, how many pages a type will hold depends upon the diameter
of the binding mechanism you buy. For example a 6mm plastic coil will
hold a lot less pages than a 51mm diameter plastic coil.

Can I use a wire
coil in a plastic comb machine?
You can if your machine is fitted with a wire closer, if not you
can buy the attachment separately.

Can binding covers
be used on any type of machine?
Yes, covers are universal

Can I alter my
document after it has been bound (i.e. adding in pages)?
Generally machines don’t work very well if you are rebinding the
same document for a second time – particularly with wire and therma
binding. If you wish to add/delete pages on a fairly regular basis, the
click binder would be the best option.
