Laminating is the most effective way to protect documents from dirt or accidental spills. Laminated documents become hard-wearing, water-resistant, hygienic, tamper-proof and can be wiped clean. In addition to these practical benefits, laminated documents are more visually appealing as the colours are enhanced. Documents that typically require laminating include: signs, price lists, safety notices, maps, menus and certificates. There are a variety of laminating machines available, and this guide should (hopefully!) help you choose the right one:
Machines
Pouch laminators
These protect and seal documents. First, you need to select the right sized pouch for your document (e.g. A4 or A3). Then the machine uses heat to seal the pouch and encapsulate the document, resulting in a high quality professional finish. It is advisable to select a model that can laminate your largest item. This machine type is suitable for all document sizes and a variety of pouch thicknesses.
2 roller laminators
These machines are available in A4 and A3 sizes, and are suitable for light use in the office. This is a cost effective solution for laminating, but the trade-off is that they will have slower warm-up and operating speeds. These are perfect for laminating 150 micron and 250 micron pouches.
4 roller laminators
Available in A4, A3 and A2 sizes, these laminators are suitable for medium to heavy-use in the office. The machine features are designed for frequent use with fast warm-up times, faster lamination and robust motors. These are perfect for laminating 150 micron and 250 micron pouches.
Being one of the most trusted brands in laminating, GBC SureFlow machines offer anti-jam technology that ensures perfect results are achieved time after time.
Roll laminators
Instead of using individual pouches, these machines use laminating film on a roll. Two rolls of film are supplied as a pair and documents pass between the two layers. The laminated document is then trimmed to size once the process is complete. These machines are perfect for banners and volume production of documents.
Cold laminators
These are typically manual machines that use self-seal pouches. These are perfect for situations where power is not available , or for use by children as no heat is involved.
