What follows is a handy troubleshooting guide for your laminating machine. Covering problem pouches through to cleaning and maintenance, we’d suggest bookmarking this article and using it as a reference should anything go a little untoward with your laminator!

Problem: Cloudy Laminated Pouches
Solution: There are a couple of reasons for this; firstly the temperature may be too low in which case increase it if you can, Or secondly the content/pouch may be too thick – try a thinner pouch or reduce the contents.

Problem: Curling Laminating Pouches
Solution: Check the support rack and make sure it is in place.

Problem: Wavy Lines Are Appearing on Laminated Pouches
Solution: This means the temperature is too high. Try to reduce the temperature if you can, alternatively pass the cleaning sheet through a couple of times, this will help to cool the rollers.

Problem: Spots on Laminated Pouches
Solution: This means the rollers have spots of adhesive on them. Follow the cleaning procedures below to clean the rollers …

Problem: Laminated Pouches Have Open Edges
Solution: This is normally caused by the document being too close to the edge so the Laminator cannot create a good strong seal. Try to ensure the document is at least 3mm away from the unsealed edge.

Problem: Pouch is Stuck in the Rollers
Solution: If you can see the edge popping out of the exit end of the rollers then gently pull the document through taking care not to speed up the rollers. If the edge is not visible you will have to contact customer services for your machine as pulling the document back through the entry end (and therefore making the rollers go backwards) will break the machine.

Cleaning and Maintaining Your Laminator

What we mean by this is keeping the rollers clean and free from spots of adhesive, which can ruin the finish of your laminated product. The best time to clean the rollers is when they are still hot – you need the heat in order to be able to clean properly. Here’s what to do …

  1. Turn selector to "heat" if it is not already on this setting.
  2. Wait for the readiness light and signal.
  3. Insert the cleaning sheet included with the machine, repeating two or three times.
  4. Insert a plain white sheet of paper to test for remaining traces.
  5. Reinsert the cleaning sheet, if necessary, and retest.

Regular cleaning of your laminator should keep it in tip top condition!
