Roll laminators are the most widely used type of laminator for
business. Home users however tend to prefer pouch laminators for their
ease of use.
Roll
laminators (sometimes called thermal roll laminators) use heat to
seal your document between two laminating sheets films.
Laminator film is made from clear polyester or nylon with an adhesive
on one side. Two rolls are placed in your machine, one for each side.
The laminator then heats the film to melt the adhesive to make it tacky
and able to adhere to the document. The rollers then draw the film
forward creating a “nip point” where the document is put into the
machine. A second set of rollers then draw the document and film though
and out of the back of the machine.
There are various option for the film used in your laminator depending
on your requirements however you should always check with the
manufacturer specifications of your machine before making a purchase as
some machines will only accept film up to a certain thickness.
